BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI

BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI represents the expansion of our portfolio of performance kits for Mercedes-Benz CDI and now the new generation of Mercedes-Benz CGI models.

The CGI badge denotes four- and six-cylinder models with direct-injection gasoline engines. Compared to conventional port injection the direct injection technology allows for a higher compression ratio which results in better thermodynamic efficiency. The end result is notably better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions. That makes CGI engines the perfect basis for a new generation of BRABUS.

ECO PowerXtra control modules!

The newly developed BRABUS PowerXtra CGI additional control unit was two years in the making and features:

• Three 8-bit processors with RISC architecture
• 4-layer circuit board
• All components meet RoHS directive from -40° to 125° C

The BRABUS PowerXtra CGI module was developed to achieve a significant increase in power output of Mercedes-Benz CGI engines while taking into account all safety-related functions of the engine. There are no negative effects of the performance module on engine life.

The challenge in developing the BRABUS PowerXtra CGI module was not in the increase in power output but in:

• Ensuring maximum safety margins for the engine
• Producing a reliable and harmonious power yield
• Meeting all EG technical guidelines and regulations for certification

BRABUS PowerXtra CGI modules only release their extra power when the engine and drivetrain are in perfect operating condition with correct operating temperatures. Until the engine reaches this condition, the original parameters set by the manufacturer remain unchanged to maximize engine life.

The BRABUS PowerXtra CGI module monitors and checks sensor signals and thus also monitors and recognizes any symptoms of component ageing which then in turn are taken into account when controlling power output.

Due to an even wider torque range, a driving style with early gear changes and less shifting effort is possible.

Depending on the specific model in question the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra® performance kits produce up to 52 hp / 38 kW more power and up to 70 Nm more torque (figure refers to the Mercedes ML 300 CDI with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra® D5).
